Getting started with FinLedger
A few minutes of setup gets you a working budget, an accurate Rest Money number and your first shared group.
1. Create your account
Choose Get started and sign up with your email and a password, or with Google. Not ready yet? Choose Sign in → Enter Demo to explore a dashboard full of sample data first.
2. Choose your display currency
Go to Settings → Account and pick a currency under preferences. Amounts are kept in rupees and shown in the currency you choose, using fixed reference rates for non-rupee currencies.
3. Add your accounts
Under Accounts, add your bank accounts, cards and cash. Their balances make up your net worth.
4. Record transactions
Add income and expenses under Transactions. Each one belongs to a category; you can manage your categories in Settings → Data.
5. Add recurring bills and SIPs
In Recurring, add rent, SIPs, EMIs and subscriptions. They're posted automatically when due and are what Rest Money subtracts from your income.
6. Set budgets
Under Budgets, set a monthly limit per category — or open the Budget Planner for suggested limits. Categories at 90% or over their limit are highlighted.
7. Link Telegram (optional)
Open Settings → Security, choose to link Telegram, and either tap the button to open the bot or send it the code shown. Once linked, you can log expenses by message — see the Telegram bot guide.
8. Turn on notifications (optional)
Allow browser notifications when FinLedger asks, to hear about group activity and upcoming bills even when the tab is closed.
9. Create your first group
Open Shared Expenses and choose New group. Then follow the groups guide to add friends and your first expense.
