Inviting friends to a group

Invite links let friends join a group with their own account, so they can add expenses and settle up themselves.

Create an invite link

  1. Open the group and choose to invite a member.
  2. Choose Generate invite link. FinLedger shows the link with a copy button and a QR code.
  3. Send the link through any messaging app, or let your friend scan the QR code.

If an unused link already exists for the group, FinLedger shows that one instead of creating a duplicate.

How long links last

  • Invite links expire after 7 days.
  • Each link can be used by one person. After someone joins, generate a new link for the next person.
  • You can Revoke a link at any time from the same dialog; it stops working immediately.

What your friend sees

Opening the link shows who invited them and which group it's for. They can choose Create account & join or I already have an account; after signing in they return to the invite and join the group. If you had already added them by name with the same email address, their account takes over that entry, so expenses you'd recorded for them stay attached.

Everyone already in the group gets a notification that a new member joined.

If the link says it has expired, was revoked or was already used, ask the person who invited you for a new one. See troubleshooting.

Privacy

An invite page only shows the group name and the inviter's name — no balances or expenses. Group details are visible only to members after they sign in.
